AESOP'S FABLES "THE WOLF AND HIS SHADOW"      Aesop's Fable  (Aesopica), a collection of fables credited to Aesop who lived in Ancient Greek. It is very popular literature and a wold's best known collection of morality tales.        A Wolf left his lair one evening in fine spirits and an excellent appetite. As he ran, the setting sun cast his shadow far out on the ground, and it looked as if the wolf were a hundred times bigger than he really was. The wold suddenly felt proud and boasted that he is better than the Lion to be the King.  Just then an immense shadow blotted him out entirely, and the next instant a Lion struck him down with a single blow. MORAL LESSON: DO NOT LET YOUR FANCY MAKE YOU FORGET REALITIES. Here, the wolf was so immersed with his fantasy being better than the Lion to be King when he saw how big his shadow is. Due to his action, he forgets where he was and that the jungle is a dangerous place. As a result, he was stroked by the Lion due to

It is very popular literature and a wold's best known collection of morality tales.      One day, a shepherd found a pig in the meadow where his sheep was pastured. He captured the pig and hurried to the butcher in the market. The pig squeals loudly as the shepherd do this. Very much amazed, the sheep followed the shepherd and asked the pig why it squeals like that. The sheep told the pig that when the shepherd catch and carry them, they don't make a terrible noise like the pig did. The pig answered, " When he catches you, he is only after your wool. But he wants my bacon!" MORAL: IT IS EASY TO BE BRAVE WHEN THERE IS NO DANGER .           Here, the sheep only lose its lambskin while the pig is going to lose its life. That is why it is easy for the sheep to say that the pig is making such a big deal out of the situa

SERVANT GIRL: REACTION TO THE SHORT STORY

Image
" SERVANT GIRL" by  ESTRELLA D. ALFON     "Servant Girl" is written by Estrella D. Alfon in 1937.  This story falls under Contemporary Philippine Literature and since then,  it was one of the popular and ou tstanding 20th century Philippine stories.     This story revolves to Rosa, a servant, who is physically and verbally abused by her employer. The story is all about the slavery and abuse of higher societal class to lower ones. Apart from that, this is all about Rosa's adult infatuation - a delusional love.      By looking at the title, I first thought it was a normal servant story. However, it turned to be the other way around. I also thought of it having a more violent and poignant content, but it was lighter than I expected. Moreover, I found the 'love story' somewhat a twist, since I did not see that coming. This story was indeed unpredictable. Given that it was a work of a Filipino author, I was actually amazed and all.      At first, I pitied Ro

"SINIGANG" SHORT STORY: APPEAL ON MY PERSONAL SCALE

Image
"SINIGANG"  by MARIE AUBREY J. VILLACERAN       " Sinigang" is a work of Philippine contemporary literature, a short story written in 2001. It narrates how Liza, dealt with the obstacle  along her way - his father having an extramarital affair with Sylvia which resulted to a son, her half-brother, Lem.      I personally pick this story because of its very Filipino title. Sinigang is a very popular dish here in the Philippines and I was so curious why it is entitled "Sinigang". My thoughts flow like this: Why is it entitled "Sinigang"? What does sinigang has to do with the story?  Is sinigang some sort of symbolism? As the story flows, my questions were answered and I just found myself loving the story. Moreover, I find the author witty for making such story flow in such as procedural manner. It was very effective and do the author deserves to be commended.      The setting of the story took place in the kitchen where Liza and her Tita Loreng wer
