CONTEMPORARY, POPULAR AND EMERGENT LLITERATURE



    Contemporary, Popular and Emergent Literature plays a significant role in shaping modern literature and the society. Contemporary literature aims to mirror the human human conditioner, thus, themes usually involves social, political, personal, psychological, cultural and religious viewpoint in human lives. It also helps in awakening the consciousnes of people as to what is really happening in this world, and be enlighten on how to cope up with today's issues and challenges. Meanwhile, popular literature primarily aims to entertain. These literature writings are of interest of the readers which gives them a soothing, calming and relaxing environment. Further, it helps the reader to forget their problem and the cruelty of this world. Therefore, popular literature serves as a friend whom readers can lean on in tough times. Lastly, emergent literature aims to give a new taste, style ans technique in writing. Hence, the use of modern materials and technology is one of its element. It also serve as an entertainment, but can also be an awakening to people. 

     Overall, Contemporary, Popular and Emergent literature aims to either inform, persuade, entertain or all of it. Literature is dynamic and flexible. It conveys and relays message that people would gladly know/hear about; and even those information that the wish not to know. 

     Now, I personally think that these pieces of literature would last long for already made a huge impact both in the society and in human lives. Further, there are already records that will always be remember. Thus, many writers will write this kind of literature for it respond to the needs people. Moreover, these literatures are essential to the development of literature in the modern world. Why? For it serves as astarting point and a basis on how to come up with literary writings in the future. Clearly, today's literature will shape the modern literature. Hopefully, literature in the future will teach us how to be humane, for humanity is the only key to live our life in peace and happiness.

According to what LBCI have learned, emergent or emerging literature refers to new genres of scholarly discourse such as online collaborative spaces, academic blogs, websites, and e-prints. Emergent literature is also said to be the literature  existing nowadays. It uses unconventional techniques, and doesn’t need to be published, to be converted to movie unlike popular literature. SERVANT GIRL: REACTION TO THE SHORT STORY

" SERVANT GIRL" by  ESTRELLA D. ALFON     "Servant Girl" is written by Estrella D. Alfon in 1937.  This story falls under Contemporary Philippine Literature and since then,  it was one of the popular and ou tstanding 20th century Philippine stories.     This story revolves to Rosa, a servant, who is physically and verbally abused by her employer. The story is all about the slavery and abuse of higher societal class to lower ones. Apart from that, this is all about Rosa's adult infatuation - a delusional love.      By looking at the title, I first thought it was a normal servant story. However, it turned to be the other way around. I also thought of it having a more violent and poignant content, but it was lighter than I expected. "SINIGANG" SHORT STORY: APPEAL ON MY PERSONAL SCALE

"SINIGANG"  by MARIE AUBREY J. VILLACERAN       " Sinigang" is a work of Philippine contemporary literature, a short story written in 2001. It narrates how Liza, dealt with the obstacle  along her way - his father having an extramarital affair with Sylvia which resulted to a son, her half-brother, Lem.      I personally pick this story because of its very Filipino title. Sinigang is a very popular dish here in the Philippines and I was so curious why it is entitled "Sinigang". My thoughts flow like this: Why is it entitled "Sinigang"? What does sinigang has to do with the story?  Is sinigang some sort of symbolism? As the story flows, my questions were answered and I just found myself loving the story. Moreover, I find the author witty for making such story flow in such as procedural manner.
